I have struggled to find a multi-purpose gluten-free flour that I can use in a range of recipes for quite some time, until my grandmother suggested creating my own blend. We looked through some of her recipes that she's collected in her life and boy did we find gold. A few days were spent shopping, sifting and cooking but eventually I determined a few favourites, and I'm sharing them with you today! Whether you're gluten-free, grain-free or potato free, I've got you covered!

SUPERFINE FLOUR

200g Besan (a.k.a. Gram) flour

200g Potato starch

150g Tapioca starch

100g Fine rice flour

GRAIN-FREE BLEND

200g Besan (a.k. Gram) flour

200g Tapioca starch

100g Potato starch

POTATO-FREE BLEND

200g White sorghum flour

200g Fine white rice flour

100g Brown rice flour

100g Arrowroot

BLENDING METHOD

  1. Weigh the ingredients.

  2. Combine them into a large plastic bag (eg. large sized freezer bags) and shake well.

  3. Slowly sift the mixture, pressing out any lumps.

  4. And voilà! The flour is now ready for use. Store in paper, calico or hemp bags. Do not store in airtight containers.

NOTES

As I'm still in the process of determining whther or not I have coeliac disease or some other form of gluten intolerance, I use the superfine blend, but you can use any of these in most recipes although some will give better results than others. All can be used for gravy, cookies, cakes and pastries, with additional baking powder/GF self-raising flour/whatever is needed additionally.

Have you got any awesome flour blends? Let me know! I'd love to hear feedback from using these in your recipes!
